Using the foundational brick structure of the existing minors hut the home has been extended, re-worked and significantly altered. Former logic has guided the renewal of this riverside property with a new skylight-studded roof-scape defining spaces beneath with ever changing directional daylight. At night moon and stars are visible from every room as artist retreats from a days work and rejoins the family spaces.

Our brief was to create a home that felt open but had delineated rooms for separate activities and work-zones for the arist and family. Walls were to be robust and enable the display of art, so plywood was chosen for its economical and structural qualities. A remnant brick wall from the original structure is celebrated at the properties main entry, and throughout the home various hints remind us of its past.

Rooms pin-wheel around a central living space, the heart of the home. External verandah’s populate opportune nooks to accentuate connection to the outdoor environment at all times. The house rests in a clearing, surrounded by remnant gum forest, perched high on a hillside - views down to the river below set the scene on this tranquil site.
